How to Write a Destination Wedding Announcement
- 1). Issue the announcement in the couple's names if they paid for the wedding, or in the parents' names if they were in charge of the finances. For example, write "(groom's name) and (bride's maiden name) have the honor of announcing their marriage" or "Mr. and Mrs. (bride's parents) have the honor of announcing the marriage of their daughter (bride's name) to (groom's name)."
- 2). Include the wedding date and follow the same formality used for invitations. Dates are written out. Write the date as "Saturday, the twenty-first of July, Two thousand twelve," instead of "Saturday, July 21, 2012."
- 3). Add the specific location of the destination wedding. Include the city, state or country name to ensure recipients do not confuse similar town names. Do not forget to include the name of the church, beach or actual location, because this helps friends and family members know why they were not invited.
- 4). Include an at-home card to inform people of the couple's new address and if the bride is retaining her maiden name. The card would read, "Mr. and Mrs. (groom's name) will be at home after (date of honeymoon return)." Follow that with the new address and home telephone number. If the bride is keeping her maiden name it would simply begin, "(Bride's maiden name) and (groom's name) will be at home after (date of honeymoon return)."
- 5). Mail a local reception card separate from the wedding announcement. This is proper etiquette because they are two separate events.
