Named after the Laurel tree, Laurel, with a population of slightly more than 22,000, is located in northern Prince George's County, Maryland, midway between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. It gained national attention in 1972 when an assassination attempt was made on presidential candidate George Wallace. Historic sites include the Laurel Museum and the Montpelier Mansion. There are a number of seafood restaurants in Laurel, some of them with locations in Washington D.C. as well. - Bottom of the Bay is Laurel's best-known seafood establishment, serving the community for more than three decades. Bottom of the Bay's crab cakes are very popular, as are its specials, such as the all-you-can-eat crab and the all-you-can-eat shrimp and crab. Other popular seafood dishes include mussels, catfish and oysters. Non-seafood meals include barbecued ribs, t-bone steaks and chicken. This restaurant also has a bar and a convenience store, and is open for lunch and dinner everyday.

bottomofthebay.com - After closing for almost a year for renovation, Captain Jerry's recently reopened under new management. The big-screen TV has been removed. There is now a fountain in the sun room, and a bamboo graphic décor, and the seats have been refurbished. The crab, shrimp and sushi are touted as being fresher than ever. Traditional favorites such as the chicken Chesapeake and the fish and chips remain, but there are new items such as the Korean barbecue, fruit salad and the seafood pasta. Lunch and dinner is served everyday. They also offer catering and accept take-out orders. No smoking is allowed.

Its menu is composed mostly of sea foods, with a few non-seafood dishes. The word fresh appears often in their descriptions of dishes. Among the favorite sea foods are: bay country crab soup, fresh seafood Caesar salad, south African lobsters tails, fresh Alaskan salmon, fresh Nova Scotia scallops and fresh North Carolina black back flounder fillet. Popular among the non-seafood entrees are the Maryland deep-fried chicken tenders, the grand fillet mignon and the Cajun red beans and rice.
