Epson SMD-300 Specs
- The Epson SMD-300 is an older model of disk drive mostly used in Epson model laptops; it was also used in some desktops. This drive has been out of production since the late 1990s but some computer hobbyists and service technicians still use drives of this sort while building, modifying or repairing older laptop computers. This disk drive type is not supported by most newer computers, making its usefulness dwindle and its rarity increase. By 2010, disk drives of this type are rapidly becoming obsolete.
- The Epson SMD-300 disk drive was a 3.5 inch disk drive that accepted 1.44 Mb HD floppy disks. It would also accept single-density 720 Kb floppy disks.
- The Epson SMD-300 disk drive had a 14-pin jumper panel used to configure the settings on the drive. It also had a standard 34-pin connector interface for connecting to controller cables for the computer's disk drive controller.
- The Epson SMD-300 disk drive was designed for use in laptop computers but was sometimes installed in desktops as well. It was factory installed in many Epson laptops built in the late 1990s. This disk drive was also available for purchase separately for installation into other computers for upgrades or for repairs.
