The Snowball Warren Buffett And The Business Of Life - Book Review
The Snowball - Warren Buffett And The business of life, by Alice Schroeder.
I started to read this book not long ago, and you know I just can't put it down(all of 800 odd pages).
I thought it would be an uninteresting picture of the life of a person working in what is oftenpictured to be a uninteresting industry (Investing).
I really was very wrong
This is an amazing look into the life of one of the most successful person's the world has ever known, and it's exciting, interesting, funny, sad..... lots of things you don't expect
For those who don't know, this book is a complete glimpse at the story about one of the richest people anywhere - Warren Buffett.
In 2008 Buffett was crowned king as the world's richest person holding a worth of $62,000,000,000.
Sixty Two FREAKING-BILLION-DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's break that down...
Lets say I earn Ten million every year (not unhealthy right?) it will take me 6,200 years to earn as much as Warren Buffett
UNBELIEVABLE HUH... Say i was saving ten million per annum from The first christmas I would be about one third of the way to having the fortune of this man.... Crazy..
Ok.... I've calmed myself down enough to finish this review...
It's not possible for me to explain just how good this is, all I can say is if you haven't ordered your book yet go get it now!
What really impresses me about Buffett is how he built his empire from nothing, he didn't start with a trust fund or estate from his family, he actually started by selling golf balls and newspapers.
Add that to the fact that he did it without even inventing something new, what he did do was study harder, gain more skills, and work harder than anyone else before him, it just makes what this man has achieved even more impressive.
The work ethic and dedication that this man has is one of the biggest take-away lessons you will get in this book from this book if you truely want something amazing you better be ready to work you're a$$ off for it.
So what really stood out to me from reading this book? More than i have time to list here however what really stuck in my mind was...
1. If you wish to be successful then knowledge is essential, never EVER stop Learning.
2. Delaying gratification, in other words work hard now to have what you want later.
3. If you want long term success (is there any other type of real success?) then you always need to stay completely honest, integrity is your greatest asset.
4. The next biggest assets are the relationships that you have with people, don't ever forget that.
5. Where you start in life doesn't matter, where life starts does not decide where you finsh in your life.
I guess I should finish up this review, in closing I firmly advise you study The Snowball. If you want to build success then knowledge is your main weapon, there aren't many people that have come close to Buffett's success, so in my opinion he is one of, if not the greatest business man to learn from.
