How to Use Sodium Bicarbonate
- 1). Treat you teeth and mouth with sodium bicarbonate. Make a paste of baking soda and water and use it to brush your teeth. The sodium bicarbonate will kill germs and whiten your smile. Additionally, dissolve about a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in a glass of warm water and use it as a mouthwash to relieve bad breath and pain related to canker sores.
- 2). Make a paste of sodium bicarbonate and water and apply it to insect bites and stings, rashes and itchy patches of skin. The sodium bicarbonate draws out the acidic toxins that cause the itching, burning sensation that accompanies most bites, stings and rashes.
- 3). Mix about 1/2 tsp. of sodium bicarbonate with 1/2 glass of water and drink it to soothe acid indigestion.
- 4). Use sodium bicarbonate to clean kitchens and bathrooms. A paste of baking soda and water can be applied to counters and other surfaces to remove stains, sticky patches and odors. Add equal parts of baking soda and white vinegar to drains to keep them clean and free-flowing.
- 5). Add 1/2 to 1 cup of sodium bicarbonate to the washing machine, where it will treat laundry that is stained or foul-smelling, such as baby items and kitchen dishcloths.
- 6). Keep sodium bicarbonate in the kitchen and near the barbecue grill in case of a fire. Just dump the dry powder onto the flames to put them out.
- 7). Remove stale or bad smells from containers and dishes by washing them in warm water with a few tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate added. Keep open containers of sodium bicarbonate in the refrigerator and freezer to absorb food odors.
