Silver Creek Metro Park is 621 acres of scenic land tucked away in the rural community of Norton, Ohio. The park has been providing a haven for people and wildlife since 1966. As part of the Summit County Metro Parks, it offers many programs throughout the year for people of all ages and interest. The park's main attractions are the water-based recreational activities including swimming, boat rental, fishing, and ice skating.

You may continue your outing with hiking trails, picnicking, play equipment, and cross country skiing.

The Lake:

The biggest attraction at Silver Creek Metro Park is the well-kept swimming lake and beach. The season opens Memorial Day weekend and the lake is open to the public. Adult admission is $4; Kids ages 3 and up are $3; and 2 and under are free. Lifeguards are on duty and emergency first aid is available during swim season. The lake and beaches are very well maintained and clean. The water is shallow and popular for families with young children.

The park has two playgrounds located within the fenced-in beach area for kids of all ages to enjoy. Bring your shovels and buckets to enjoy the afternoon creating your best sand castle. Enjoy a tasty lunch, snack, or cool off with ice cream at the snack stand operating during swim season.

You can also enjoy pedal boats, rowboats, and canoes at the boathouse for a fee. Fishing is permitted from the dock and designated shorelines with an Ohio fishing license.

Anglers can expect to find bass, catfish, rainbow trout, or bluegill at the end of their fishing line.

Trails:

Silver Creek features eight miles of easy, clearly-marked walking trails.The Chippewa and Pheasant Run trails are well-kept natural grass and mulch trails. Silver Creek’s 4-1/2 mile and 2 mile Bridle Trails are the only horseback trail within the Metro Parks, utilizing some private land as well. All trails wind throughout various types of trees including tall sycamores, larges northern red oaks, and hickory trees. The park was once the Harter Family Dairy Farm, still standing is the farm’s old barn that dates back to the Civil War time, it can be seen up close along the Chippewa Trail.

Wildlife:

People and animals enjoy the park in harmony. Wildlife can be found scurrying to and fro throughout the park. You'll spot frogs, turtles, ducks, great blue herons, and osprey around the lake and wetlands. Be observant; you may spot a wild turkey, rabbit, fox, coyote, song birds, mallards, geese, herons, hawks, mice, voles, deer, and more during your visit.

Silver Creek Park Amenities:

Amenities at Silver Creek include restroom facilities, drinking fountains, pay phones, shelter, playgrounds, many picnic tables, grills, and a snack stand. An open-air picnic shelter at Pheasant Run is available for reservations, Summit County Residents $40, and Non-Residents pay $50. Price includes 6 tables that seat 48 people and 2 grills. It is wheelchair accessible and restrooms are nearby.

Programs:

Silver Creek Metro Park is a good source for year-round outdoor programs. Enjoy naturalist-led hikes that describe the buried coal mines that existed at Silver Creek, Creatures of the Night hiking program, Spring Spree for All, Fall Hiking Spree, Fall family outings that include free hayrides, and bonfires, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Hiking Clubs, live concerts, and more at Silver Creek Metro Park. Acme Fresh Market sponsors many Metro Park events and their mascot, Buck makes special appearances during summer concerts.

Park Hours:

Silver Creek Park is open from 6am to 11pm daily. During the summer swim season, the beach is open from 10am to 8pm.
