Empowered In The Kitchen By My New Chef Jacket
Hi again,
I need to spread the word about an amazing feeling that's just swept over me like a wave of enthusiasm and confidence. Who would have thought it, little old me who can manage to burn pasta (popped it in a saucepan then promptly forgot about it), make custard that would challenge the rubber industry and tell the children for years that the black bits aren't burnt they're just crispy, would suddenly be hit square between the eyes with a majestic feeling of empowerment by slipping my arms into a Superchef Secrets Chef Jacket.
I have become Superchef Supermum. I can parade around my kitchen challenging every utensil that dares to look me in the eye. Now, I am in charge, I make the decision about whether to use the hob or the oven (no longer the big square scary thing that used to glare at me menacingly). In my Superchef jacket I am king of the kitchen.
A new sense of freedom has overcome me. I've un-wedged the dusty cook books from under a shelf they've been holding up for years, I've looked at the pretty pictures of food I don't really understand and scoured the back of the tin cupboard for anything that looks more interesting than a can of beans (there was a tin of broad beans in a foreign sounding syrup but I won that in a tombola and heaven knows how old it is).
My new found confidence in my jacket hasn't given me the basic skills I should have learned a long time ago but a whizz through the Superchef DVD and booklet should sort out that minor detail. But, the fear of cooking has gone so now I can slay my kitchen demons.
