Reverence to God"s Word - A Right Spiritual Attitude

103 64
If we really want to show reverence for God our attitude must change, and then we will hear what God wants to tell us.
We cannot claim to be honouring God while we constantly reject His word! It is now evident that many people do not know much about God - His character, His purpose, His will and His plan for their lives.
They always "plead ignorance" with the idea that they really can't know the things of God.
But experience has shown me that they can.
Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to guide the apostles into all the truth.
The apostle Paul later acknowledged this fact by saying that what we received was not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is from God; so that we might know the things that were freely given to us of God.
Those things are the things we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches, but that which the Spirit of God teaches.
God reveals Himself to us "in words" which the Holy Spirit gave to the apostles.
This means that whenever anyone wants to know God and know Him really, the person should study the Book which reveals Him - the Bible! We also understand that God's divine power is what grants us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge which He had called us by His own glory and virtue.
If it pertains to "life and godliness", then God has revealed it to us in the Bible.
If you want a recipe for making a cake, you go to a cook book.
If you want to understand calculus, you go to a book on mathematics.
In exactly the same way, if you want to know God, you go to the Bible.
That is why Apostle Paul says that we should be grateful to God for revealing the eternal truth to us about Himself.
When you read the Bible, you are not reading the word of Paul, or the word of John or the word of Peter, but you are reading the WORD OF GOD.
If you reverence God, you will honour His Word, the Scriptures.
After Paul shows that "all scripture is inspired of God" (2 Timothy 3:16), he added that the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work, simply by reading God's Word.
He also declared that as a Christian, he was not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God unto salvation.
Reverence for God will manifest itself in proper respect for the Bible.
In direct support to the words of Paul, John warns us against the sin of going onward, and abiding not in the teaching of Christ.
Warnings are also given about altering the Word of God in any way (Galatians 1:8).
If we honour and respect God, we will honour and respect His Word.
