As a city with a rich and vibrant New England history, Boston is home to numerous famed bars and taverns. Several of these spots are known because of their long histories, some even having been established back in the 1600s, while others are recognized for their place in popular movies and TV shows. Regardless of the reason for their fame, each bar has its own exciting story and has established a place for itself in Boston's culture. - The Green Dragon Tavern, originally established in 1654, was often frequented by both Paul Revere and John Hancock and there's speculation that the tavern was where the two began discussing plans for the Battles of Lexington and Concord. As of 2010, the tavern offers live cover bands every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, and pub-goers can enjoy a selection of Irish-American dishes from a full menu that is available until 9 p.m. nightly. In addition, the tavern offers 16 different beers on tap, as well as an extensive cocktail menu.

somerspubs.com/greendragon_history - The original Cheers pub is located on Boston's Beacon Street, and was the inspiration behind the popular 1980s TV show of the same name. The pub, originally named Bull & Finch Pub, was founded in 1969. In 1981, the two Hollywood screenwriters who wrote "Cheers" came across the Bull & Finch Pub and decided that they would replicate it back in California for their new show; the pub in Boston was not the filming location of the TV series, but it was the direct inspiration behind the show's Hollywood set. Now renamed as Cheers, the pub is open seven days a week and a second location has opened in the Faneuil Hall Marketplace.
