Select themes, activities and food to help guide the women of your religious or spiritual organization in their ministries. Julia Bettencourt offers dozens of ideas for women-in-ministry banquets. Bettencourt's "Pearls and Lace" banquet idea applies a feminine theme based on Proverb 31. A Pearls and Lace banquet might include selections of biblical verses that show women how their lives may be transformed. Banquet attendees might gather in small groups for devotional time. Let the banquet room radiate with pastels and resonate with soft chamber music. Decorate tables with feminine place settings, using lace and imitation pearls. Schedule time for women to reflect on and share their personal "pearls" of wisdom. Hold a drawing for a door prize. Give the winner a basket with bath oil pearl beads, a loofah, gourmet tea and a dainty cup and saucer. Make the highlight of your women-in-ministry banquet a speaker from the spiritual community.

    Women's Charity Banquets

Charitable organizations may provide guidance to plan a successful charitable event. Oxfam, a global organization committed to ending world hunger, provides instructions and materials necessary for holding an Oxfam America Hunger Banquet®, which shows in tangible ways how people's choices affect world hunger.

Guests at such a banquet draw tickets assigning each to an income tier--low, middle or high--based on the latest available poverty statistics. If, for example, 15 percent of people in the world live in the high-income tier, 15 percent of the guests enjoy a delicious and luxurious meal. Middle-income guests receive a lunch of rice and beans. Guests in the poverty tier always compose the largest group--about 50 percent. These guests receive small servings of rice and water.

Schedule a speaker to educate guests about hunger. The idea is to give them an experiential comprehension of hunger.

    Women-in-Business Banquets

    • Business or corporate banquets provide opportunities for women to enjoy earned acclaim for moving up the corporate ladder. If budget allows, hire a keynote speaker. Speakers such as Fawn Germer have the business savvy to help focus and encourage women with long-term business aspirations. A women's corporate banquet could be the focal point of a women-in-business weekend retreat.
