How to Clean Hermit Crab Decor
- 1). Place your hermit crab into a safe, clean carrying cage or temporary enclosure while you clean his habitat and toys.
- 2). Remove cage decorations and toys, and rinse them thoroughly in sudsy warm water. If your hermit crab's decorations are made out of soft plastic or other materials that might melt if boiled, put them aside after rinsing.
- 3). Boil the remaining cage toys and habitat decorations in water for five minutes. While you are boiling the toys, clean out the habitat, and fill it with fresh substrate.
- 4). Use a sponge dipped in white vinegar to wipe away any debris or visible dirt on each habitat toy or decoration, including the ones that you have boiled.
- 5). Rinse all toys and decorations in warm water, and place them back into the cleaned cage prior to putting your hermit crabs back in the habitat.
