How to Paint Balsa for an RC

    • 1). Lay out drop cloths beneath your completed RC model. The drop cloths may vary in size, depending on the size of your model. The cloths could be laid on top of a bench or table, if that's the location of your model.

    • 2). Sand the surfaces of the balsa wood with 80-grit sandpaper. Wipe away the excess wood dust by swiping a clean cloth across the surfaces of the balsa wood.

    • 3). Apply a coat of sealant to the wood by using a paint brush. Small paint brushes used for artistic paintings work well, and a variety of sizes are available to suit the size of your particular model.

    • 4). Prime the RC model by using a clean paint brush and applying a coat of white primer to it, over the coat of sealant. The primer will help make the paint adhere well to the plane and not peel off.

    • 5). Paint your model with the colors of your choice. Wait until one color dries before applying the next color. To obtain straight lines, use painter's tape. Remove the tape after the paint dries to see your painted balsa wood RC model.
