How to Clean Damaged Travertine
- 1). Repair any damaged travertine tile before the problem worsens. Fill in holes or cracks with epoxy resin, grout, or tile filler. Allow it to thoroughly set and dry.
- 2). Seal the repaired travertine tile to prevent damage from reoccurring. Any tile sealant will do.
- 3). Clean travertine counter top surfaces using hot water, stone cleaner and a soft cotton cloth.
- 4). Dry the travertine with a soft cotton cloth after cleaning. Avoid letting water sit on travertine because staining can occur.
- 5). Clean travertine floor tile by sweeping with a dust mop. Mop afterward using stone cleaner and hot water, as described above.
- 6). Prevent further damage to your travertine tiles by mopping up spills immediately and using coasters under drinks. Travertine is especially sensitive to acids such as juice, wine, or soda.
- 7). Reseal your travertine tile once a year to protect against future damage. Highly trafficked areas may need to be resealed twice per year.
