Inexpensive Centerpieces for School Functions
- If your event is on school premises, it can be difficult to overcome the everyday atmosphere of the facility. Bring in a fresh, natural feeling by using greenery in centerpieces. Head outdoors and cut any type of plant life that appeals to you: ferns, evergreen boughs, flowers or even tall glass. Collect a series of large vases and fill them with the greenery to form dramatic centerpieces that will give a natural feeling to the room.
- Make use of the school spirit memorabilia that is lying around the school to make inexpensive centerpieces that will have color and texture. Create groupings of materials like athletic letters, confetti, balloons, bullhorns or cheerleading pompoms. Arrange them artistically in the center of the table. You might place a small bullhorn on top of a pompom and sprinkle confetti around them, for example, or combine framed photos of students with athletic letters.
- For a sweet, nostalgic centerpiece, fill clear glass jars with teacher-related items like apples, colored erasers or pens. Choose three jars in different sizes, fill each one with a different item, tie a ribbon around the top rim, and place them in the center of the table. For a creative touch, glue pencils to the outside of a coffee can and fill it with red apples for contrast.
- Make a cupcake bouquet for a centerpiece that doubles as dessert. Bake cupcakes and decorate them to look like flowers; use green cupcake wrappers to go along with the plant theme. Fill a flower pot with floral foam and push in skewers so they stick out about 2 inches around the foam. Push a cupcake on each skewer so they form a dome around the top of the flower pot. Tie a big, bold ribbon around the pot and set it on a paper doily in the center of the table. After the event, guests can pull off cupcakes to take home.
