    Denali National Park

    • While visitors to Alaska will certainly enjoy her unique culture and interesting cities and towns, it is the breathtaking wilderness of the "Land of the Midnight Sun" that is to be most enjoyed when exploring the state. One great natural location, situated in interior Alaska, is the vast and massive Denali National Park. Rising above the cold forests and rocky ranges of the park is the tallest mountain in North America, Mount McKinley. While only experienced climbers should attempt a summit of the 20,320-foot McKinley peak, there are many day hikes throughout the 9,492 mi² park to enthrall the visitor. Visitors should also be encouraged to take a bus tour throughout the park's interior, admiring the wide-ranging diversity of arctic wildlife.

    Portage Glacier

    • The Portage Glacier, located about 50 miles to the southeast of downtown Anchorage in the Chugach National Forest, is another must-see natural area for visitors to Alaska. Roughly 6 miles in length, the glacier was first recorded by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1898 and was once situated on a portage route between Prince William Sound and Turnagain Arm. A fantastic portrait of the cold, arctic tundra covering much of Alaska, the Portage Glacier is an enchanting site for any visitor to the state.

    Kenai Peninsula

    • The Kenai Peninsula, another wild location to the south of Anchorage, is another enchanting site to be added to the must-do list of any traveler to Alaska. Visitors should be sure to travel some of the Kenai Peninsula Wildlife Viewing Trail, which features roughly 65 wildlife viewing sites throughout the Kenai. The interesting wild beauty of the peninsula will certainly enthrall the visitor.
