Tiptina"s - A New Orleans Music Hall
A Music Hall Created For One Musician:
Tipitina's was founded in 1977 as an Uptown neighborhood joint by the "Fabulous Fo'teen", a group of music fans as a venue for the great Professor Longhair (Fess)to perform in his later years. If you've ever been to Mardi Gras, you've heard "Mardi Gras in New Orleans," the tune that's always played. It's only one of Fess's hits.
How Tip's Got it's Name:
Fess composed many of the songs that all of us who grew up in New Orleans, and all of us who have been to Mardi Gras or New Orleans know as "only in New Orleans" songs.
One of his best was "Tipitina's." Thus, the name of his music club.
