How to Burn Open Source DVD Videos
- 1). Download a DVD burning software program such as Nero or Roxio that is compatible with the computer. Or download freeware at no charge such as ImgBurn or CD Burner XP Pro (see Resources).
- 2). Insert a recordable, blank DVD into the DVD drive. There are four types of disks capable of handling digital media: DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW. Most DVD drives will read and burn on all types.
- 3). Open the burning program. With the project window open, click "File" on the top menu bar and then "Save As" from the drop-down menu. Replace "Untitled" with the name of the movie being burned.
- 4). From the browse list for the file to copy, highlight the name of the open source movie on the hard drive to burn and the destination drive where the blank DVD is located. Select the speed the DVD burner will use. Typically this is set at 8X normal speed.
- 5). A window will open up with a list of the different quality formats for the disk being burned. "Fit to disc" is the default. For optimum video performance, highlight "High Quality." All the settings are now finished. Click on "Start" or "Burn" to begin the process.
- 6). A progress bar will show the status of the burning process and how much time is left before it is done. Monitor this graph to make sure no errors occur during the copying.
- 7). When copying is finalized, eject the DVD that was burned and play it back on a DVD player to confirm that it works. If making more than one copy, insert another blank DVD and then click "Continue" or "Burn next DVD" on the menu screen.
