How to Play Cornhole the Right Way

103 14
Cornhole is a fun lawn game.
It is popular with many people and is simple to play.
So here's some information on how to play cornhole.
In this game, players each take a turn throwing cornhole bags (cotton bags filled with corn) on to a raised platform with a hole at one end.
The cornhole boards (or platform) are often made from plywood or plastic and they can be decorated.
If you throw the cornhole at the platform and it slides into the hole, then you earn 3 points.
If you throw the cornhole bag on to the platform and it stays in place and doesn't slide off, then you earn 1 point.
Each player continues to throw the cornhole bag until someone reaches a score of 21.
A cornhole match is broken down into innings.
For each inning, a player throws four cornhole bags.
These matches can be arranged as either a singles or doubles play.
As said earlier, a score of three points can be made if the cornhole bag is tossed on the platform and then goes through the hole.
It can be slid through the hole, or bounced in by another cornhole bag, or tossed straight through the hole.
And if at the end of each inning, any cornhole bags still laying on the platform earn one point each.
Scoring is normally on the basis of cancellation.
So if the first team pitches the bags and ends up with 4 points and then the second team scores three points, the first team would end up with one point net.
This play continues until one of the teams reaches 21 or more points at the end of an inning.
However some people play by the rule that the score must equal exactly 21 or the play goes back to the point it was at in the previous round.
Also a team can only normally win if their score is at least two points higher than the other team.
So if the score is 21-20, play must continue until there is at least a two point spread.
No one is exactly certain as to how the game began.
However there are several stories on this.
One story indicates that the game was first developed in Germany during the 14th century.
It was then rediscovered in Kentucky over the past century.
However it came to pass, the game began to build in popularity in the late 1990's at Cincinnati universities as a popular game at parties.
The development of a commercial product which was trademarked as Baggo helped to make this game even more popular especially in college towns located primarily in the Midwest and the South.
