How to Build a Palm Fan Hut
- 1). Place the two 6-foot long poles on a flat work surface, with a little less than 5 feet between them. Set one 5-foot long pole across the top of each, ensuring that it will create a bar at the top of the two. Hammer one or two nails where the two poles meet.
- 2). Repeat step one with the 7-foot long poles, and one of the 5-foot long poles. Nail one 5-foot long pole across the bottom of the two 7-foot long poles to join them together. This will create the backside of the structure.
- 3). Stand the 6-foot long structure and the 7-foot long structure on their sides, 5-feet from one another, with their bottoms resting at the same height. Nail a 5-foot long pole at the top, creating a slope; and at the bottom of each, join them together to make three sides of a box.
- 4). Flip the bamboo structure over and repeat step four. This will be the main structure.
- 5). Nail the 5-foot long, 1/2-inch diameter poles across the top of the structure, evenly spreading them out and nailing them perpendicular to the slope, so that they are nailed on either side of the sloping pieces.
- 6). Attach palm fronds to the bottom of the 1/2-diameter poles, tying them every 1/2-inch and allowing the leaves to drape over the top of the hut.
- 7). Continue attaching palm fronds to each 1/2-diameter pole, working upwards and completing across one pole at a time. Continue this until all have been covered. Repeat this with the top 1-inch bamboo support pole.
- 8). Trim the front of the palms with scissors for a cleaner look, or leave them without trimming for an authentic look.
