How to Refinish Silverware

    • 1). Tear off a piece of aluminum foil that's large enough to line the bottom of a large pan.

    • 2). Place the aluminum foil inside the pan and tuck it around the edges.

    • 3). Pour 2 to 3 inches of water into the pan and place it over medium heat.

    • 4). Add in 1 tsp. baking soda and 1 tsp. salt. Let the water come to a boil.

    • 5). Add your silverware to the water. Try not to stack too many pieces on top of each other. Allow the silverware to stay in the boiling water for two to three minutes, swishing it around gently with a metal serving spoon every minute or so.

    • 6). Turn off the heat and pour the boiling water into the sink through a metal strainer. Allow the silverware to fall into the strainer.

    • 7). Rinse the silverware under cool water until you can touch it.

    • 8). Use a soft cloth to buff each piece of silverware individually to bring back the shine.

    • 9). Add a small amount of toothpaste and some warm water to any silverware that still looks tarnished or to any edges that need to be cleaned more.

Rub the toothpaste into the silverware with a cloth. Rinse and buff as you did the other pieces.
