The Florida Keys has been a gay travel destination for the past 50 years. According to the Florida Keys travel guide, since the gay revolution in the 60s "Key West has been a home for gays & lesbians." There are many hotels owned and operated by the gay community in the Keys, and a few of them are either male or female only. In addition, there are gay community activities in the area, including a gay and lesbian historic trolley tour. - Big Ruby's is gay owned and operated and caters mostly to men. Located one block from Duval Street, an area populated with bars and restaurants, the hotel is convenient to fine dining, main Key West attractions and shopping. There is a complimentary breakfast and free happy hour every day. The grounds feature a lagoon-style pool, 15-person Jacuzzi and a treetop walkway through the gardens.
