How to Spool a Spin Caster
- 1). Remove the front spool cover from the spin caster reel. Hold the cover and turn it slightly to the left or counterclockwise. Pull the cover straight out and away from the reel to remove the cover.
- 2). Pull new line down the length of the rod, feeding it through each line guide. Begin at the tip of the rod and work your way down to the reel. Feed the free end of the line through the spool cover that you just removed.
- 3). Wrap the free end of the line around the spool of the bait cast reel. Pull 6 to 7 inches of line around the spool so you will have plenty of line to work with when tying the knot to attach the line to the spool.
- 4). Attach the line to the spool with an arbor knot. Form an overhand knot with the free end of the line so that the loop of the knot goes around the main line. Tie a second overhand knot below the first one, this time using only the free end of the line.
- 5). Moisten the knots slightly with water or saliva. Pull the knots down tightly against each other and the spool of the reel. Trim the excess line from the free end of the knot with scissors so it is no longer than 1/8-inch long.
- 6). Attach the spool cover back to the reel and grasp the line several inches in front of the spool. Apply tension to the line and turn the handle of the reel to begin spooling line on the reel.
