Decorating a Farmhouse Kitchen
- 1). Select a color theme for the kitchen. Popular color themes for a farmhouse kitchen include shades of apple green, red, blue, honey gold, white and beige.
- 2). Use a country-themed border to tie the theme together. Popular wall borders include fruits such as apples and berries, country plates, floral baskets or hearts and stars. Or choose a wall border that has a farm animal theme such as cows, pigs, horses, sheep and ducks.
- 3). To decorate the walls of your farmhouse kitchen, hang weathered wooden signs of all sizes and colors, vintage kitchen utensils, a hanging pot rack with old pots and pans or paintings with rural country scenes.
- 4). Choose furniture such as tables and chairs that are well constructed of solid wood such as pine or oak. For an unexpected splash of color, paint chairs red or blue.
- 5). Use placemats that have a farm animal image such as cows, pigs or roosters. Use salt and pepper shakers, plates and cups that have a similar farm animal theme on them.
- 6). Dress up the windows with curtains that are plaid or have a gingham or a floral print in green, red or gold. Prints should have earthy tones of color to give the kitchen a vintage country feel.
- 7). Use rustic containers such as tin bowls, small wooden buckets and old tea pots as vases. Stick twigs that you find in the backyard into the containers for an authentic feel.
- 8). Drape a large colorful braided rug on the floor to warm up cold floors.
