How to Use Laptops With Fixed Power Sources
- 1). Click the circular Windows orb logo in the bottom-left corner of the desktop (also known as the "Start" button). Type "Plugged In" in the search box at the bottom of the Start menu. Press "Enter" to open the Power Options window.
- 2). Find the current power plan, which is indicated by a filled-in radio button (circle). The "Balanced" plan is generally recommended by Windows.
- 3). Click "Change Plan Settings" next to the current power plan to transition the page. Locate the "Plugged In" column heading near the top of the Edit Plan Settings page. Click on the drop-down menus under the column to change how the laptop will perform when plugged into a fixed power outlet in the wall.
- 4). Select "Change Advanced Power Settings," which opens a new dialog box titled Power Options. Click on the "+" signs to expand the power setting options. Click on the value next to "Plugged In" to activate the box. Select or type in a new value to change how the laptop will perform when plugged into an electrical outlet. Click the "Apply" and "OK" buttons to save these advanced power settings and close this dialog box.
- 5). Click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page. Close the Edit Plan Settings page and window.
