What Do You Use to Clean Hardwood Floors?
- Dust mop your hardwood floors daily or every few days with a broom, dust mop or even a vacuum cleaner. The goal here is to collect any dust that may dull the natural luster of the hardwood, plus you want to collect any stones or hard chunks of debris that could scratch the hardwood.
- If you notice stuck-on residue while dust mopping, damp mop the floor using water only. Wring out your mop well and let the hardwood air dry after cleaning. This is typically all that is required for day to day maintenance.
- When you want to kill bacteria and provide a more thorough cleaning, mop your floors with 1 cup white vinegar and 1 gallon water. Again, wring out the mop well and let your floor air dry after cleaning. The vinegar disinfects the hardwood without causing damage.
- Never use a vacuum cleaner that has a beater bar, and also remember that you should never use excess moisture when cleaning. To much moisture will cause the wood to swell and crack; this is why you always want to wring excess moisture out of your mop before cleaning the hardwood floor.
