Dallas Restaurant Review: Urban Taco
About.com Rating
Everyone in Dallas loves tacos. Crunchy tacos. Soft tacos. Tacos stuffed with protein. Tacos stuffed with veggies.
But where do you look when you want something besides your average ground beef-filled taco? Check out Urban Taco. You could describe it as an upscale, gourmet taqueria with a modern ambience.
Or, you can call it like it is: a place where you can make a meal eating chips and salsa. Good chips and salsa.
Make that damn good salsa. You could make a meal on chips/salsa, but you must have some of their specialty tacos.
The Menu
I like the variety on the menu at Urban Taco. With soups and salads, tortas (sandwiches) and crazy good appetizers, there's something for everyone here.
When I made my first visit to Urban Taco, I sat outside on the patio at the Uptown location on a perfect, sunny day and started with the Salsa Trio with chips. I stopped and tweeted, "Why didn't someone tell me this is a place where you can make a meal off chips and salsa?" I'm a chips 'n salsa girl. Urban Taco does not disappoint in that deparment.
If you love things that are spicy, try the Habanero Peanut salsa. Don't be afraid if it sounds a little unusual, it was definitely my favorite of the Trio. But it barely edged out the Jalapeno/Avocado salsa, or the Avocado Cream. If you're concerned that the Salsa Trio is $3.25 - don't. Forget everything you know about the free chips/salsa that you get at most places. This appetizer is totally worth it.
The menu offers a variety of gourmet tacos. I sampled the Chicken Tinga and the Arracha Steak Tacos.
Chicken Tinga is an adobo-spiked braised chicken. It's a spicy and flavorful dish -- recommended for the more adventurous taco fan. That's me. I like spice. It was delish.
The Arrachera Steak is adobo-marinated steak, avocado, roma tomatoes, red onion, romaine lettuce, oaxaca and manchego cheese. The beef was flavorful, zesty, well-seasoned but I preferred the uniqueness of the Chicken Tinga.
Catering
It's muy importante to know that Urban Taco caters. Why bring in boring sandwiches when Urban Taco can spice up your meeting with some tacos, soups, salads and desserts? Contact the catering department for details at 214-822-5097 or email them at catering@urban-taco.com. I vote for tacos!
In Closing
To whom it may concern: I totally support a "Suburban Taco" if you would like to venture out to the suburbs where I reside. Thanks.
