How to Make a Fishing Pole Storage Rack

    • 1). Cut two pieces of 3/4-inch board to 10 inches by 16 inches. Solid boards look nicer, but you can use plywood.

    • 2). Set one board aside. With the other, measure in 3 inches from both long edges. Draw two lines accordingly down the length of the board with a pencil.

    • 3). Draw four points on each line at 2 inches, 6 inches, 10 inches and 14 inches.

    • 4). Stack the two boards flush on top of each other. Clamp them lightly together if you wish.

    • 5). Insert a 1 1/2-inch spade bit into a drill. Drill completely through the top board and just far enough into the bottom board to leave an impression. Be careful not to drill through the bottom board. Drill out all eight marked points.

    • 6). Using a drawing compass, trace out a 1 1/2-inch hole on a piece of paper and cut it out with scissors. Transfer this pattern to a piece of felt and cut out eight circles.

    • 7). Cut a 1/2-inch-wide channel from the outside edge of the top board to each of the eight holes. This allows you to slip your fishing poles in from the side of the pole storage rack. You could use a band saw, jigsaw, table saw or handsaw.

    • 8). Set 1-inch wooden dowels between the top and bottom boards and screw them into place from the bottom and top. For a more decorative design, top them off with pre-made finials from a hardware store.

    • 9). Stain the rack and let dry.

Glue the felt circles into the depressions in the bottom board. Let dry.
