How to Backdate a Computer When Audio Was Lost
- 1). Shut the computer down and remove the power cord. Disconnect all external devices and remove the computer case to access the motherboard.
- 2). Find the CMOS button or jumper on the motherboard. This jumper or button is generally located near the center of the board, and it is labeled CMOS. Many modern computers use a small push button for the CMOS settings, while older models use a small piece of plastic that fits over two pins sticking up from the board.
- 3). Push in the CMOS button and hold it down for 10 to 15 seconds, or remove the plastic piece and leave it off for 10 to 15 seconds. Release the button or replace the plastic piece. Reconnect the power cord and external devices on your computer.
- 4). Press the power button on the computer. You should see a "Time and date not set" message. Enter the date you want to use and press enter.
- 5). Shut down the computer again if you are not prompted to enter a date. Restart the computer and look for the key code to enter the setup menu. For instance, many HP computers use the F10 key, while Dell computers use the F2 or F12 keys, depending on model.
- 6). Scroll through the list of options in the setup menu until you find the date setting. Type the date you want to use, exit the setup menu and save your changes.
