The Advantages of Destination Weddings

Destination weddings are becoming more and more popular nowadays. Gone are the days when weddings were always treated as a formal ceremony. With destination weddings, the couple and the guests are treated to relaxation, adventure, and an unforgettable experience in a venue far away from home.

However, this type of wedding is not for all couples. Some couples want the solemnity of having their wedding vows in a church that they have always attended and the comfort of being in a place familiar near home. There are some, however, who prefer to live off the beaten track and to whom the thought of having a wedding with no rules greatly appeals to.

For this type of personality, here are some advantages of having this type of wedding:

Laid back vs. rigid - If attending weddings were never really your thing because of the formality of the event and the dullness of the ceremony, then a destination wedding would be able to provide you with a more casual and laid back option of tying the knot with your loved one. There is no need for tuxedos and all those other formal wear. Couples can get married in khakis and just a simple summer dress.

Only have the people who matter - Many people attend weddings just because they were invited to it and they feel that they do have an obligation to attend. Having a wedding in a different destination is also a convenient excuse to limit the number of invited guests to the few who really matter to the couple.

Sets the mood for everyone - With a wedding far away from home, the mood is set not only for the couple but for attendees as well. Imagine snorkeling and kayaking for the first time and having a sunset reception by the beach with barbecue and fireworks. A wedding out of town is an experience that becomes memorable for all the guests involved.

More time - While an ordinary wedding usually lasts half a day, the entire program of a destination wedding may stretch to up to 3 days. How about setting up cruises around the island during sunset or friendly kayaking contests? Cocktails and bonfires could also be held the night before the actual wedding takes place.

Bragging rights - Another advantage of getting hitched away from home is being the talk of town for a long time! When couples get married near home, guests rarely remember the venue after the few years. Getting married in a different destination ensures that the wedding also becomes memorable for everyone who spent the special day with you.

While destination weddings may not be for everyone, a well-planned destination wedding could provide the right couple with the best adventure and experience of their lifetime.
