Vinegar is a cleaning element used in many homes, as it provides a more natural alternative to expensive, chemically-based cleaning products found in stores. You can purchase an entire gallon of white vinegar for a very low price from any grocery store, and it takes only a small amount to clean, disinfect and even deodorize surfaces around the home. - Fill a spray bottle with plain white vinegar, twist the lid on and spray across your carpeting before vacuuming. This vinegar spray kills bacteria and deodorizes your carpeting, leaving you with a fresh-smelling carpet free of harmful germs. Note that there will be a slight vinegar odor for an hour or so until the smell dissipates.
- Pour 1 cup white vinegar into your normal laundry load for an added disinfectant and deodorizer. This does the same thing as bleach, only the vinegar is safe for all colors and uses no chemical ingredients to get your laundry clean.
- Vinegar is safe for any flooring type, including wood, vinyl, laminate and linoleum. For an all-purpose floor cleaner that disinfects without leaving behind residue, mix 1 gallon warm water and 1 cup white vinegar in a bucket. Saturate a mop with the solution, wring out the mop and wipe over the floors. Let floors air dry when finished.
- Get clear, residue-free windows and glass by substituting white vinegar for glass cleaner. Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar, spray onto your glass surface and wipe off with a lint-free cloth or handful of newspaper.
- Pour 2 cups of white vinegar into your toilet for an easy way to disinfect and deodorize. This works especially when when you have toilet rings or hard water buildup, simply let the vinegar sit in the toilet for about 30 minutes and scrub with a toilet brush. Flush after cleaning.
